2017/18 – A Season in Review
As the last weekend of the 2017/18 Rangers season come to a close, we would like to take a look back at some of the highlights of this season. It has been an exciting year for the WFC Rangers on and off the field. Here are just a few of the memories from the 2017/18 year.
A New Technical Director
WFC Rangers welcomed Derrick Ayers and our new Technical Director. Derrick has had an immediate impact on Rangers, having hired four full-time staff members and extending Rangers from U9-U19 he has dramatically increased Whatcom Counties resources to premier level soccer and professional coaching. We look forward to having Derrick for his second year with Rangers.
State Cup Runs to Remember
Girls 2001 Gold – Take second in the Washington State Presidents Cup. The girls were undefeated in group play, and advanced with a 5-2 win in the semis. They lost 3-2 in the final to Three Rivers. Zola Carbone scored both goals in the final.
Boys 1999/2000 Gold – Won their league and advanced to the Semi-Finals of the WA State Championship Cup. Being the only RCL division 2 team in the tournament, the 1999/2000 boys beat PacNW, the #3 ranked RCL Division 1 team, 3-1 in a dominating performance in the quarter-final game to advance to the Semis.
Girls 1999 Gold – Advanced to the Semi-Finals of the WA State Championship Cup.
Girls 2000 Blue – Advanced to the Semi-Finals of the WA State Presidents Cup.
Trips Abroad
Both the 2004 Boys and the 2000 Boys traveled to Barcelona. They were able to able to compete against top level youth clubs from Spain. Both teams were able to watch Barcelona play live at Camp Nou. It was an extraordinary soccer experience that they will all remember for the rest of their lives.
League, Tournament, and Showcase Wins
Boys 1999/2000 Gold Team went undefeated in league play.
Boys 2003 Gold team won their league with a 11-2-1 record. They scored 42 goals in 14 games.
Boys 2005 Gold team won their league with a 14-2 record and 72 goals. Boys 2005 Blue team took second in their league and boasted a whopping 106 goals!
Girls 2001 Gold team went 11-3 winning their league. They also won the SC Del Sol’s Presidents Day Tournament Showcase in Phoenix, Arizona
Girls 2002 Gold team won two Showcase tournaments this year. The PacNW Winter Showcase and the Phoenix Cup.
The Girls 2004 Gold team won the 2017 Presidents Cup and were awarded a trip to the Regional Tournament.
Rangers in Elite Player Development (EPD)
We had seven Ranger players represent Washington for the WA State Elite Player Development (EPD) program. They were all selected to represent Washington at their age groups during the Region IV US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) Championships in Phoenix, Arizona in January.
A New Website
Long overdue we finally have a website to be proud of! Thanks to John Seyler, the builder and designer, we have a new site that has all of the information you need. Since the release of our website in February, we have had over 5,000 visitors and over 40,000 page views.
