What to expect at tryouts & Tryout FAQ

Each age group will host two tryout dates. Arrive early to check in for tryouts & we will assign every player a numbered bib.

Tryouts will consist of small sided scrimmages with coaches & directors evaluating from the sidelines. Coaches will move players throughout the session to and from different teams & fields to aid in a thorough evaluation of each player.

Team Selection Process

At the conclusion of the 2nd tryout, the technical staff and age group coaches will collaborate to determine the best placement for each player as we form our teams for the upcoming season.

The WFC Ranger staff is committed to a continuous evaluation process for returning Ranger players. Returning players evaluation will not be exclusively based on two tryouts.

How Do I Sign Up for Tryouts?

Online registration is available through the Rangers website that links to Blue Sombrero Sports Registration Platform. We strongly encourage you to register online for two reasons. First, it helps facilitate an easier check-in on the first day of your tryout. Secondly, it helps the coaching and evaluating staff to more properly prepare their sessions. If you are unable to register online, walk-up registrations are allowed.

There is a $10 tryout fee.
How Much Does It Cost to Play Rangers
Why does it say "Team Registration" when I am only registering for tryouts?

When you go to register you may notice it says ” Team Registration” not “Tryout Registration”. This may seem a bit confusing, but this registration format allows us to streamline each players team assignments, communication, and registration process!

We have everyone register under our “Team Registration” umbrella for tryouts to streamline our registration process. This eliminates the the need to registration first for tryouts and then again after selection.

Once the teams are selected we are able to assign players accordingly and contact each team as a group to inform players and parents of their selection.
When Will I Be Notified About the Tryout Results?

At the conclusion of the 2nd tryout, the technical staff, head coach and assistant coach will collaborate to determine the best placement for each player as we form our Ranger’s teams for the upcoming season. The WFC Ranger staff is committed to a continuous evaluation process for those returning Ranger players and your evaluation is not exclusively based on two tryouts.

Players will be notified of their team placement via email within 48 hours of the second tryout session.
How Long Do I Have to Commit to a Team

We ask that every player that is trying out for a Whatcom Ranger team be ready to commit to the team upon receiving an offer. This will speed up the process for everyone else in the age group.

Decisions must be made within 24 hours as there are players that will be offered a spot should one decline an offer.
What If I Am Sick, Injured, Or if I Have to Miss Tryouts?

IMPORTANT: In the case of unavoidable conflicts or injuries that impact your ability to participate in the tryouts you must register for the tryouts to be eligible for a make-up tryout date with the formed teams. Please contact your Director to inform them of your reasoning for missing tryouts and to schedule a make-up date.

The WFC Rangers believes in giving all players a chance to tryout for our program under the best circumstances possible for them. If a player has missed our tryouts due to illness or injury, we would like to give that player a chance to tryout when they are healthy to see which team is best fit for them. We understand the player will not be seen in the best circumstances if they are not healthy and we believe this would be unfair to the player.

If a player would like to tryout when teams have been formed, they still need to register for the tryout at the time of registration. There is an option to select injured or sick, please select that. When the player is fully healthy, please contact the Technical Director to arrange a player tryout. The player will begin with two opportunities to train with the age group Gold team, with at least one of those trainings all coaches for the age group present. We fully appreciate all players ability and we will do our best to place the player on the right team for their future development.

What Do the Coaches Look For During Tryouts?

All players will be evaluated based on their technical and tactical ability as well as their physical abilities. Players who exhibit a strong work ethic and who display a respect for the game, coaches and fellow players will show well. The WFC Ranger staff is committed to a continuous evaluation process for those returning Ranger players and your evaluation is not exclusively based on two tryouts.
Do I Have to Attend All Of The Tryout Sessions?

This is a very popular question each year. The simple answer is…YES. The more sessions you attend, the greater the opportunity you have to exhibit your skills to the head coach and the staff of evaluators. For this reason, we strongly recommend that you attend each of the sessions in your age group. You must attend at least one session. In the case of all unavoidable conflicts, please contact your Director. They will advise you on how best to proceed.
